Walking around the poorest part of the slum today, with a Peruvian companion. It really hit home the situation of how rapid globalisation has ingrained itself amongst the world. South america I thought would have a culture of extreme difference to my own, it does obviously though I can’t stop thinking about the similarities. This slum before you is the poorest in the area of Villa El salvador though what can you see that reminds you of home?
The Tv Ariel’s amongst the tired miss match housing is a sight I will never forget. That even though these people don’t have running water or a proper education they have TV’s, watching re-runs of american sitcoms, being shown a lifestyle they couldn’t even aspire to one day reach. Adverts of nestle and Coca Cola surrounding this place, the models bleakly looking at me with there perfect complection and white skin tones, I saw the same in India.
Globalization has ment that these people of a poor background, are faced by a lifestyle that is causing climate change so rapidly, by consuming what is hurting the earth is what Globalization is promoting.
Overall it is hard not to be judgemental of the current system of things when the evidence of corruption and poverty are so blatant before me eyes.
